Tysoe ramble

We had an excellent ramble on a beautiful summer's day from Tysoe as described in the previous posting. A good addition to our repertoire!

A first for me, was the sighting of a robot lawn mower (below) in action. A must for my christmas list!

Tysoe - Shenington 5.5 miles Thursday Aug 17th

An excellent ramble. Climb the the Cotswold escarpment by a steep track and walk through a beautiful valley to picturesque Shenington. Descend  a steep path through woodland. Sticks helpful. Look out for a robot lawn mower near Sugarswell business park! Varied scenery and views throughout. Take your own food to the pub or use the village tea shop.

If reversing the route, go down Peacock lane and use the unmarked path entrance on the left, between houses.

A shorter version of this walk is ViewRanger shortcode uthreea0187

More ViewRanger features

Hi All
We had an excellent day out at Chipping Warden. ViewRanger proved to be much better than my car satnav.

Re next Ramblers walk
Tuesday Aug 1st Sibford Gower – Sibford ferris v5
lead by me.
I have been fiddling with ViewRanger again and found some more useful features. You can download the ramble on your smartphone using
ViewRanger Shortcode uthreea0284
(case does not matter – use zero 284 not O for orange 284)
If you have already downloaded it then Synchronize via the three vertical dots on the top right of the ViewRanger smartphone screen. (It is always a good idea to synchronize on the morning of the ramble in case I made any modifications, the evening before.)
Select the above route/ramble on your smartphone.
You can scroll up and down for directions and other information.
There are 3 tabs displayed just below the map.
The first one “i” displays the information I just mentioned.
The second one displays some of the waypoints and any notes or photos. Select each waypoint to see more information. This is useful for reminders at a particular waypoint e.g. directions to the walk leader, when leading a walk.
The third one display a graph of altitude changes. Gives an indication of how undulating the walk is.

Chipping Warden - Eydon 6 miles Thursday 27th July

Hi All
I have fitted in an extra ramble because of the (hopefully) nice weather. We enjoyed the ramble from Chipping Warden that we did earlier this year so I have planned another from there. It does include  a couple of miles that we did before. E.g. the disused World War 2 bomber airfield (1941 - 45). So I intend to reverse the route.

If you would like a lift, I have room for one. The ramble starts at 10 a.m.

If you downloaded the walk to your phone before you read this post please synchronize ViewRanger on your phone. I have amended the walk slightly. Please also reverse the route on your phone.

It is an excellent ramble. Very nice countryside. Undulating. There is a spring just after a bridge. You need good boots to cross a short muddy patch.

Parking

Take the A425 from Southam to Daventry but turn immediately right towards Priors Hardwick. Follow Welsh Road E for 4 miles. Turn right onto Welsh Road for 4.4 miles. Turn left onto Welsh Road for 1.2 miles. Turn right onto the A361 for 1 mile. Turn left onto Culworth road in Chipping Warden. Pass the Griffin on the left and park at the village hall.

Thursday 27th April - Chipping Warden to Trafford House 5.25 miles

This should be a good one. I have walked the southern part of this with Peter before. It was part of the Edgecote battlefield walk. Very nice countryside. Edgecote is a charming place. It has an old mill, a river and a manor house.

Cropredy - Wardington - Williamscot 5.5 miles completed at last!

Take the M40 South. At J11 (Banbury) take the first left onto the A361 towards Daventry. After about 2.6 miles take a left to Cropredy. After 1.2 miles turn right.  Park at CROPREDY SPORTS FIELD, The Plantation.

Walk into the village from the Sports Ground Car Park. After crossing the canal bridge turn right, walk up the lane known as Round Bottom until you see The Wharf House on your right.  The brickwork of this house is in the style known as “Flemish Bond”. Continue walking to the end of the lane and at the bridge look across the canal to Riverside Cottages. Cross the bridge.
